Controversy Thursday: Cookie Dough

You may have noticed that as of late, I have not been particularly inspired to write; leaving you all to be entertained by each other's comments rather than my own wit. What is the controversy in this, you might ask? Well, I'm debating taking a leave of absence from blogging. I've considered it before, but my attention-whoring tendencies always prevented the actualization of my departure from the scene (trolling excluded).

My ultimate reason? Through my addiction to blogging, I have found my creative voice. As with any drug-like dependence, I no longer experience the same height of euphoria from posting a particularly well-written vignette that I used to when I was first flirting with extremely pubescent writing skills. The more I hone, the more I want. A narrative that's more substantial in content and length. A wider audience. Both of which I fear a blog [and its bromidic, high maintenance demands] will never fulfill.

It is this that I will leave you all to debate for me as I wallow momentarily in this unfamiliar state of verbal sobriety. I'm hoping this intermission is just that; a fleeting recess, rather than an end.

**P.S. Based on your input, I'm moving to once a week instead of quitting. I'm just not ready to say goodbye.

    Gah.

Is then your sobriety only verbal? There's a happy hour on the calendar and I need some Cookie time.

Oh yes my friend, definitely verbal only. I'm taking a hiatus (might just be a few days, haven't decided officially) to prepare for this novel I want to write.

Makes sense to me. I think a lot of people use this sort of forum as a place to practice, to try out ideas/characters or just to work on the writing skills, after which longer-form writing would be a next logical step. I'd say you've got the chops for it, and if you have a story idea then run with it and see where it takes you.

That said, it would be sad to see you go. You're pretty good at this, so even less-frequent Cookie is better than no Cookie at all. :)

Yeah - I'm thinking of going to once a week. Keep my writing fresh, but less pressure to entertain on a daily basis (at which I have clearly been underachieving).

Just slug down half a fifth of vodka and you'll be back to the crazy, boob-grabbing, booty-shaking, stranger-groping cookie that we all know.

Why do you feel pressure to publish everyday like your a periodical or sumthing????? Just write when you feel you have something to share and if you don't have anything to share just post pics because thats what I sweat you for anyways...But I feel your writers block. Although I don't know you that well...Ok I don't know you at all, I feel that through your writing you hold back and you say things that society/us want to hear instead of your true gut feelings. I think that holds you back from expressing freely on this hot dam blog.... But don't go, I'm a Cookie addict and without you i'm nothing and with you i'm still nothing....*Flips the 8-track and starts playing Taps and salutes a flag*

First the Daily Dump, then Vividblurry and now Cookie? Now I'm going to have to figure out how to html again just so I can remove the links I had to everyone on my blog. Rude. Don't you people every think of anyone other than yourselves.

*this coming from someone who has tired so much of blogging that he can barely muster a big brother update*

    Cookie,

I hope the Incredible Econ War didn't scare you away! :)

I'm with O-Face once again. This is YOUR blog. You should never feel like you're ever obligated to entertain or amuse anyone but yourself. That other people come along and enjoy your work is a signifier of its quality. Remember, you don't always post those hawt pictures of yourself*, so the people who come to read do so because they think you've got something worthwhile to say.

With that said, I'll never oppose anyone who wants to take their career to another level in the written world, so by all means, go for it!

    * = And I support Virgle in saying that there need to be more of these as well. :)

By the way, the code for this entry was "gahqwt," which could easily be interpreted to "Gah! Don't Quit!" :)

Hey girl...I understand the leaving I am riding a fun high of new haters and new fans which is DEFINATELY some of the best parts of this attention whoring we call "blogging" but once that isn't pushing you enough then I get the feeling stuck thing. I started this as a creative outlet and didn't realize how much I would end up loving it and you have been a HUGE inspiration to me. :-) Good luck in everything and drinks soon. VERY soon.

I agree that the demands of daily posting, or any sort of fixed schedule, are likely to interfere with writing a novel. Post when you have something you want to say or when you want the attention. Or as VK and others said, when you have pictures, which tend get you the attention. If you have a novel in you, by all means take the time to write it!

I wish you luck in your pursuits. Think of your Blog as recreation. It will always be there to absorb your experiences in the broader world and your audience will still be around to ooh and aah and laugh and cry with you when you share your life with us. I too have wondered what it would be like to buy back that hour or so a day that I spend doing just this. I'm not quite ready to find out -- not just yet.
