Playboy for Women

An excerpt from a [highly paraphrased] humourous conversation this morning:

Cookie (after critiquing a flyer for a Playboy subscription offer): You know, we don't really have something like this for women. I've never been interested in Playgirl - it's completely cheesy.

CF: Yeah, that's targeted more to gay men.

Cookie: Maybe.

CF: What women need is a magazine about romantic, emotional men who share their feelings.

Cookie: Ha! That doesn't exist.

CF: Exactly. The female equivalent of Playboy. It's a fantasy.

And then he smiled and kissed me on the cheek.

As I know discussed in other posts...thats where Chris Martin and James Blunt come in. :-) Just thinking about them is better than any cheesy mag, right?

Ew! Gay men do NOT read playgirl. Ugh. We have our own dirty mags. Or craigslist.

heh. charming fellow has a point. i mean, how many stunningly hot 34-24-34's are there that are turned on by "sports, and making my man happy"? just doesn't happen.

i met someone who used to work at playgirl and said the atmosphere was very dirty and raunchy - not at all what a female reader would want to know about. so yeah, no rose petals and bubbble bath editorial "spreads" there.

    but anyway, boobies are up!

    Isn't Penthouse geared toward women?

Isn't Cosmopolitan the "playgirl" for women?

Yeah, Cosmo and plenty of other Women's mag's cover the same territory, but it's mainly about acquiring, keeping & upgrading that man.

So something about 'romantic, emotional men sharing their feelings with the one they love', that's the picture right? Why they've got it in every supermarket in the land. They're Harlequin Romances, in the Fiction aisle. Think about it, it's the best selling category of fiction for a very good reason. Cheers, 'VJ'

I think the best we've got is cheesy romance novels, but I for one gave up on the "White Knight" fantasy a long time ago. Those things fill our heads (or mine at least) with all kinds of unattainable, and cheesy, ideals. And frankly, I think most of the men in those books would be pretty annoying in real life.

I appeared in Playgirl in 1987. They had me standing at the mast of a ship wearing a rain-slicker, a turtleneck, and no pants.

    It was quite tasteful.

    Dear Penthouse Forum:

I am a coed at a midwestern university and recently I was reading this blog that said there is no good pornography for women. Please do not tell me "Craig's List," because...well...really. I would like for you to provide me with grants money that would allow a young woman, such as myself, the opportunity to become a publisher of pornography. I would stay and write more, but my roommate just arrived back at the dorm with her boyfriend, and when I declined their offer of a "threesome," they asked me to leave the room.

I just have one thing to say about fantasy porn (masturbation aids) for women. Mills & Boon (that's Harlequin Romances, gals). Much more hidden and shameful than Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, or any other skin mag. The guys say "I love you" all over the place. And "You're the only woman for me." They never look at anyone else once they meet their dream girl (you). Fantasy, and best selling. Probably doing much better financially than Playboy Enterprises, too.
