Gray

In the mirror this morning I came across a strand of bright, shiny, silver hair. It was actually pretty; I almost debated leaving it there. I don't mind the idea of my hair turning gray. The hues of white and silver in my family tree are extremely attractive. But at 29, I'm just not quite ready. So I plucked it out.

oh, Cookie...sadly enough, at the ripe age of 28 i'm now nearly 5+% grey... maybe more! It started in college with one beautiful silver hair, which has now developed into a patch of little newly-sprouted silver hairs, just at the crown of my head. Let's not mention the legions of silvery strands above my ears!! What's going on here?

I have some patches of gray poking through, but then again I'm a few days from 37. At this point I'm happy with whatever color my remaining hair is.

my mom got her first grays at 17 and for years told me that it would happen to me, but as of yet, not a one. Thankfully all of my relatives get a cool gray streak, so I get to look forward to that.

At your age, they're probably not really gray but just regular hairs that forgot to suck up their color on the way in. Believe me, if you start plucking too frequently, there are a lot of other solutions...

Good thing that you, unlike RCR, didn't find any grey chest hairs.

Gray hair on a classy lady...totally sexy. But not now, Cookie. Not until we are done storming the stage...

I started getting them when I was a teenager. My dad has a great head of silver hair, but I'm still only 30! So I use strategic highlights and none's the wiser....

I appreciate signs of aging...it lets you know that you are still alive. Wear it proud!

For the nut who said signs of aging means you're still alive...got news...it's called botox and a box of L'oriel. I will know I'm alive when I can't feel my face and someone has to stick the straw in my mouth so I can sip my liquors.

Also - on a side note - Cookie were you wearing a camel colored hat and going down (tee hee) the escalator at the Dupont South metro this evening at approximately 7:15pm or so?

You know what's worse than the gray hair? The receeding hairline...that is a mark of evil within itself.

Subsequently, your family marriage happiness level is quite unsettling, but very uplifting.

I dyed my hair red for about 30 years, but during this past year I finally relented, spent hundreds of dollars and endured many months of transitional color: strange half blond half silver half some other color (3 halves?)

Just this week my hair person declared the metamorphosis complete. I had the dullest most ordinary dishwater brown hair last time I checked. Now it's actually a pretty shade of silver with some dark ash tones, too. Who knew it would look better? I didn't which is why I dyed it for so many decades.

Now when i see a woman of my age with red hair and silver roots I think, "How tacky!" A year ago, that was me. The tyranny of roots is over!!

Pluck away for now. Your hair is gorgeous, it will also be gorgeous much later in life when it turns lighter.

OK, Sister Cookie. I got my first grey hair at 24, and I have lots now. And I'm younger than you and we have the same gene pool. So I don't think you can complain!! You got Dad's grey hair (or lack thereof), and I got Mom's.

Samantha is right. I have seen it on my own head with my own two eyes. When one is plucked it spontaneously procreates. Before you know it, you're 32 and setting 1/10 of your savings aside for two shades of highlights . . .

Too much information, I know. ;)

Well I bet whoever it was didn't appreciate me staring her down as she descended the escalators. :) She probably deserved it though.

i started getting them at 25. my parents were both really gray by the time they were 30, so genetics has not been on my side. but that's what the salon is for.
