Momentary Miracles

I have gone to the same hairdresser for 5 years. Why? I stumbled upon the salon accidentally before a company holiday party several years back when I was helping my party date find a rental tux. I wandered in and asked if they had someone who could do something nice with my hair for the party, maybe even straightening it. Atilla then told me he blew hair straight all the time. I giggled. "It will take more than a hair dryer for this mop." He just said "trust me." I raised an eyebrow, but decided to give it a try. He did this:

I was dumbfounded. All it took was a hair dryer (at the temperature of the sun) and a round brush. He didn't even have to pull very hard. Seems easy, right? It's not. I certainly can't do this myself, and I've tried several other hairdressers over the years and no one has come close. Perhaps because he's Turkish and he's used to working with thick, curly hair. Perhaps because he's just that good.

Where do you find this inexpensive miracle worker? ProEuro salon on Pennsylvania between 22nd and 21st. On the fringe of GWU, with prices suitable for poor students.

Too bad it only lasts until I wash it. Don't get me wrong, I really love the curls. They suit my bubbly, whimsical personality. But sometimes it's fun to pretend to be sophisticated. Atilla makes me feel like a princess.

It looks great. I have wavy hair that I can get to be straight-but all I want is a big curly mop on my head. Funny how that works-one always wants what ones does not have! :-)

Damn your hair is long and lovely in that first photo!

I am a long time straightener of my wavy mess, and exclusively visit Jaime Wong in Richmond 3-4 times a year because she has the same hair I do and the same disdain for it in its natural state.

Then a guy friend told me how much he liked my hair curly, so I wore it that way around my man once. He wouldn't stop saying how great it looked. Then another guy friend remarked on it when he saw it.

One could argue that I never have to straighten again. But I know I will. It's still my preference.

Thanks for the info on the salon Cookie! I have yet to find someone I trust here with my curls, let alone some willing to straighten it. Any suggestions?

I've learned that the ceramic plated flat iron is one of the greatest things in the entire hair world. A few spots below is the Conair hair dryer wand with the brush already attached.

After years of fighting them, I've learned to love my curls. But there is just something to be said for how glamorous I feel the few times of the year when I have it straight. It's like becoming a different person :)

I always wanted lucsious wavy hair.

I know, the girls who have straight want curly, the curly girls want straight.

The only time I don't like curly hair is when my glasses get stuck in them...COOKIE!

    Hehe.

BL - try Attila. Tell him Jessica sent you. Just a blow dry is $30, blow dry and cut is $50.

this is amazing. i have curly hair (probably a bit less curly than your's, but it's an unruly mess nonetheless), so i may have to try this guy out. i can never achieve such results on my own.

The CHI is a miracle. It's a flat iron that cost around $100, but it is worth the investment.
I've tried other flat irons that just don't come close.

I used to use Attila.....when I had longer, styled hair. Maybe one day I'll go back. Give my girl a shout out!

I will. It's hilarious. He has a crush on my sister.

Haven't tried the CHI. I've tried flat irons that are useless and never thought to try again. Might check into it.

Then again, I love my curls...

Yep - that's his name. And, I think you should still be allowed to go to the hairdresser, although he might take out his vengeance on your hair...

You already have great hair, but damn does it look good when it's straight.

I just wanted to say that I DO love your curly hair Cookie......but I am sure you love having the straight hair every now and then, sort of like I lust the curls from time to time.

My 'inner circle' from back home are all regional managers for the Trade Secret Salons all over NY, NJ, OH, and PA. They are the ones who got me on the CHI and highly recommend it if it's straight hair you are after.

either way you have lovely hair!

long ago I invested in a conair blow dryer that has a brush and comb attachment to achieve straighter than straight hair. but it requires mucho arm muscles.

    **sorry I tagged you :)

You have pretty hair either way, Miss Cookie. Mine is straight, so my issue is how do I get my hair to hold curls. As for stylists..I've already blogged about my guy and the yearly traumas we undergo when the "Best of Hair" issue comes out for the Washingtonian. Some of these people do have artistry (and sometimes the temperament) at their fingertips.

I know him personally and he's one of the best hairdressers you can find in the DC area. He's super funny too! ;)

DC Cookie, you look super hot with that hair :D
