UVA Football - Worst Losses

My friend 'Jean Claude Van Slam' just sent me this link to the top 10 UVA football disappointing losses.

UVA Football

Can we please add the loss to Fresno State in the 'sub-par' MPC Computers Bowl on January 27th, 2005? That cost our family big-time in bragging rights over some Fresno State friends in CA. UGH!

I've said this many times since my first year at UVA...sometimes it's just hard to be a Wahoo...

I was at 8 of those 10 games. Words cannot express the awful feeling after the 1990 GT game. I think I'm going to lock myself in a dark room and cry myself to sleep now.

That was a tough one for the Wahoos to swallow. I must admit though that the Smurf Turf did something to add to the drama.

The only game on there post-2000 is the Miami game last year, which was hardly an unexpected loss. We had a fighting chance, but come one - it's Miami.

Anyway, with most of our major losses behind us, I think that's indicative of the quality of program we've had since Groh came on. It's not our fault (or his) that we keep getting dicked over in bowl bids.

Wiz - I graduated from elementary school in 1990. Missed that game...

RCR - but what about getting shitty bowl bids, and then LOSING!! UGH!

Damn girl. My parents were in town for my 21st birthday that weekend. My Dad still twists the knife every now and then, reminding me that it was the best football game he ever saw. :(

Please be sure to post the "10 best wins" as well, I would like to read that one.

Hey now.. Fresno State was/is no slouch. Pat Hill runs a very good ship and should be coaching at a higher-profile school, even with the facial hair.

10 best wins.. one of them has to be the comeback against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg in.. 98? I should remember the year since I was there but I'm pretty sure it was 98... Oh, and the Hook and Ladder game against Georgia Tech - if for no other reason because they won on the gimmick play

oh and #1 - Warrick Dunn on the 1 foot line. No question.

Only one loss to Virginia Tech listed?

It must be so commonplace that it isn't that disappointing when it happens.

    Oh, that's right.

You guys are a "Basketball School".

    VT - 2004 ACC Champions.

    I think we're more of a lacrosse/soccer school, but we'll keep trying...

Yeah that's cool, Virginia Tech is one of the greatest college football teams of all time. I mean, they've been ranked #1 in the polls and have won so many national championships and have a home field advantage that's so great that nobody can beat them there. Their players are the highest character guys you can find, never once stepping out of line and getting into trouble with the law. I can't get enough Virginia Tech.

...by the way, in case you didn't know it, none of the above is true.

I think some of the best football we've ever played was the first Tire Bowl against WV.

As for Tech.... when I picture what the world would look like after a nuclear holocaust, I think of Blacksburg. I feel sorry for them more than anything.

    Hi, chica!

It's Arianne. My friend pointed me toward your blog and when I checked your pic, I said, "Hey! I know that fabulous girl!" Anyway, I miss seeing you around...(sad face). Check out my bloggie-poo if you want to, but it's in no way up-to-date. I get distracted easily! Hope I cya soon!

Sounds like more sore loser talk to me. The proof will be in November. Or December. I forget when we play you guys since you decided we weren't your main rival. Guess we're your warm up to the mighty Tar Heels of UNC. Or somebody.

Don't get upset. I have a soft spot in my heart for people who went to Upside Down Scissors University.

You can keep Charlottesville, though. It's nice and all but Blacksburg is better.

And the college colors are Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange.

    Purple? Sheesh.

Chicago maroon and burnt orange...even worse :-)

I'm Canadian, we're pacifists...I can't really 'hate' on anything, #1 rival footbal teams included.

I believe it's typically Thanksgiving weekend that the UVA/Tech game is played.

    November 19th in Hoo-ville.

You play Miami in Miami the next weekend.

A tough way to finish off the year.

Can't wait for the season to start.

Wow! I was at game #3, and wish I was at game #1! I had game 1 (GT vs. a then #1 UVa) on vhs and watched it over and over. As you may have guessed, I am a huge Tech fan.

I used to tailgate with Patrick Kerney's mom & dad when they would come to Atlanta for the Tech game (his sister worked with my then-girlfriend, now wife).

Always look forward to our games with the Cavs.
