The Challenge

Being on the road for work can be tough on one's figure. Especially when you're burning the midnight oil and ordering room service. So instead of lamenting the few extra pounds I've gained, I'm making it interesting and easy for myself to drop them again.

The terms: $200.
The competition: My co-worker.
The duration: 1 month.
The goal: 8 pounds (yeah, that's a stretch for me). Weigh-in Aug. 21. Weigh-out Sept. 21.

If I reach my goal, then I keep my money. If I don't reach my goal, but my co-worker does, then she gets my money. If I reach my goal, but my co-worker doesn't, then I get her money. If neither of us reach our goal, the buy-in goes to charity.

With a little petty cash on the line, the discipline is no longer voluntary.

Wish me luck.

But then you'll lose your delicious boobies. No! You must not do it.

Do a little South Beach stuff. Egg whites, fish etc. You'll lose 4 lbs. in one week. I'm thinking of doing it again, because 8 lbs is exactly what I need to trim off.

    Good luck!

It's amazing what a few weeks at the gym can do. For real.

    Lord...I'm sure you can do it - you're a runner, and a lover not a fighter. :)

Good luck sugar although last time I saw you you looked great. I recently lost all the weight I gained in the fall from quitting my pack a day smoking habit in addition to losing 5 lbs and I am so happy to be back in fighting form. Feels good. :-)It does something for you when you feel good about yourself...whether by losing/gaining/getting fit. But you are still a hottie.

Good for you! I know a group of guys who did this kind of competition last year, also with money on the line, and combined they lost something like 80 pounds. Whatever works -- and good luck on winning that money!

I am a road warrior for work and I actually stopped staying at some nicer hotels because the el cheapo hotels such as "Hilton Garden Inn" have an in room fridge and micro. I now stop at the grocery and pick up healthy snacks/ quick meals rather than ordering the huge steak and fries from room service.

I usually pick up bottled water, yogurt, cottage cheese, soy crisps, WW Smart Ones, etc.

I also found that if I eat in room I am more likely to hit the gym because I haven't wasted my entire evening at a restaurant.

I probably drink too much, but I allow myself one bottle of wine per week while in the hotel as well. (Hey, I can't deprive myself of everything!) Sitting at the hotel bar is bad for the waist line.

Besides, if I eat cheap in the room I can pocket my per diem for going out on the weekend with friends which is where I would rather blow my calories.

    Just my opinion...

    Cookie,

Not to be a suckup, but if you feel like you need to lose weight, there is no hope for any of us. :)

Hope you're kidding. 8 pounds is a joke to lose.

Might be a joke to a person who is 50 pounds overweight, but that's a lot of weight for me to lose, since I don't have much to drop in the first place.
