the south's desire to break away from the union was a bad idea on several counts. first, economically. look how the europeans have struggles to form a trading bloc and move beyond inefficient ,small economies. if georgia had gotten its way it would have been its own isolated nation state. nope. and socially. could it have hurt the plantation owners to pay their workers and raise their standard of living instead of continuing to force labor out of them. not a very sustainable way of doing business. there is a distinct differnece between norhterners and southerners, in this country and just about every other country in the world; however, it shouldn't have escalated into a war unless the generation fighting as idealized it somehow and justified the solution. by the way, mother's day was established as an anti-war holiday after the civil war.

I buy African Cichlids for my aquarium because they are colorful and live within fresh water environment....So they come from 3 lakes in africa right....so why is the PH level in all three lakes so different yet all three are within a 100 miles of each other....Explain that to me as well and the impact of slavery on cichlids and the ph level of the water.. Alrighty. Well its time to go home. I suceeded in getting Cookie 40 comments. What did I learn today.

my brother had a rebel flag hanging on his wall back when I was a little kid. what's funny is he's totally not racist and it didn't represent anything but that he loved the Dukes of Hazzard. i guess things like that can mean many different things to different people. to assume someone is racist or take offense to something like a rebel flag on a guitar is lame. unless of course the guy tries to beat his black drummer to death with the guitar...then I think its okay to assume he's racist. otherwise, maybe he's just a really big Dukes of Hazzard fan. *shrug*

i actually know for a fact that it is no other than Dick Cheney himself who writes for DAC. but their relationship is more like the arrangement that Elton John has with his writer. Cheney writes the lyrics and DAC writes those rockin' tunes.
Also, it's a good chance that they are lovers as well, hence the complicated and often misunderstood nature of DAC/Cheney songs.

I believe it is quite reasonable for anyone to establish pride in a history for which they feel connected. And own a pride in whatever symbolizes that history. Regardless of what an ignorant few within that history chose to believe or do.

I am sure that every American owns some shame in the acts of a few Americans who have acted in some horrific acts against other humans. Since we have American's who have committed some very painful acts against other people, then should we completely disown the American flag? No, that would not make sense.
So it is my plea that everyone allow each other to identify with or even love the symbols of the history for which they identify. Allow them to paint them, fly them, and tattoo them anywhere they want, it is our freedom to do so after all.

the south's desire to break away from the union was a bad idea on several counts. first, economically. look how the europeans have struggles to form a trading bloc and move beyond inefficient ,small economies. if georgia had gotten its way it would have been its own isolated nation state. nope. and socially. could it have hurt the plantation owners to pay their workers and raise their standard of living instead of continuing to force labor out of them. not a very sustainable way of doing business. there is a distinct differnece between norhterners and southerners, in this country and just about every other country in the world; however, it shouldn't have escalated into a war unless the generation fighting as idealized it somehow and justified the solution. by the way, mother's day was established as an anti-war holiday after the civil war.
