Edna

I live in a beautiful big townhouse with two other girls. The townhouse used to be owned by a very elderly lady with alzheimers. She passed away in the house. Her daughter is our landlord, who is so happy that we bring so much 'joy to these walls her mother loved so much.' My bedroom was her old bedroom. The loft above my room was her book den. Her name was Edna, and we sometimes refer to her as our fourth roommate.

I have never seen Edna. I have never heard Edna. I technically don't even believe in ghosts. So what the heck is it that, as I'm turning all the lights off downstairs before heading to bed, makes me race up the darkened staircase as if someone is chasing me? Why do I sleep with the covers pulled up to my eyeballs? Why, when I can't get to the bed fast enough, do I whisper sweetly, "Goodnight Edna?"

Secretly, I think I just like to freak myself the hell out sometimes. Not to the point where I'll be joining Jinxy on the range, but I definitely let the creative juices flow. Keeps the heart in good condition.

I shouldn't have watched Ghostbusters as such an impressionable young lass.

Wow. I was just talking about ghosts too.

    To futher quote Eddie Murphy:

"And not only did they stay in the house with the poltergeist, they invite more people over!

Sitting around going: "Our daughter Carroll-Ann's in the television set."

    I would have been gone.

If I had a daughter, I'd go down to the precinct and say,

"Look man, I went home my fucking daughter's in the TV set and I just fucking left."

You can have all this, I ain't going back to the motherfucker.

I just came down so when she ain't at the school you don't think I killed the bitch or anything like that.

But she is inside the TV set you can have all that shit. Thank you."

I HATE horror movies and freaky ghost movies but love hearing about actual encounters with whatever it is that is out there...I'm sure Edna is kind of still in your house but is probably as pleased as pie that you're such good girls.

If weird things start happening fill me in! HEART

'Alzheimer's'? Yeah, right. Hear that scratching underneath your hardwood floors? That's Edna.

I'm sure the daughter is enjoying that rent money...

My dorm in college used to be the old infirmary....it made it more fun to think the place was haunted. :)

I have a friend who swears my house is haunted, so much that when she is babysitting for me she refuses to go to my basement.

    ::shivers::

Not sure if I completely believe in ghosts but, I know that feeling you get. I also run up the dark stair case as fast as I can (glad to know I am not the only one).

In addition, I embarrassingly admit that I secretly believe that someone/thing with ill intentions appears outside the curtain when I close my eyes in the shower, but quickly disappears when I open my eyes (which I try to do as fast as I can). But then again, my bathroom IS in my basement, huuummmm.

Well, I think you are safe and very nice that you whisper, "Goodnight Edna". However, if she answers back...I would get the hell out of there STAT! ha ha (but seriously)

AT least you're afraid of something that might prove to be real. I'm afraid of that stupid Chucky doll, which umm hello! I'm 22 and that's so not a possibility. I'm also terrified of Clowns which could turn up anywhere. But ghosts (unless they're ghosts of those that died by decapitation) don't really freak me out.

i used to be afraid the ghosts of my dead relatives were watching while i masturbated.

and then i thought to myself:
"meh, who are they going to tell."

My house is 100 years old, and I can't help but wonder what kinds of ghosts are lingering around--which is why I sleep with my head under the covers.
