Not Thanksgiving

I am thankful for many, many, many things. I am truly blessed. But since Canadian's celebrate Thanksgiving in October, I'm going to twist things up a little bit for the American counterpart. Here is Cookie's list of what she is NOT THANKFUL for this year:
  • Having to pay in full for my doctor's visit on my birthday since the clinic could not verify my insurance on a Saturday; then having to wait 3 months for partial reimbursement. Oh yeah, and being sick on my birthday.
  • UVA football getting annihilated by VA Tech (humourous that on first posting I noticed that I'd typed UVA 'tootball' by accident. That should get my anonymous fart commenter riled up).
  • Gas hitting $3 plus per gallon the week after I brought Scarlet home.
  • The pitiful season finale of Laguna Beach.
  • Having to purchase 2 cell phones and 2 cameras this year because I'm a scatterbrain and I keep losing them, breaking them, or having them stolen.
  • Skinning my knee at the Dewey Beach Girls' Weekend.
  • The lack of availability of good Canadian beer in the States.
  • Sean Preston Federline having two white trash parents. At least he'll turn out to be a good dancer.
  • The Ford Focus, which is quite possibly the worst rental car ever.
  • Hangovers.

Meh - that's enough. Lists that are too long get boring, and I know you all skimmed the existing list as it is.

Happy Turkey Day (almost)!

It could be worse. You could own a Ford Focus.

The endings to your last two posts crack me up -- "eh, that's good enough for you" --

    "anihilated"

That IS a good way to describe it.

Have fun with the 'Canes this weekend.

    You're their rebound team.

Let me tell you how fortunate you are Not to own a Ford Focus. Go here: [http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/results.cfm]

This is the NHTSA.org recall and defect site, where they used to have 100's of pages on my beauty, a 2000 year Ford Focus. They used to have these lengthy reports going into in painful detail how this lemon was the modern day Edsel, (but of course the Edsel actually worked better). Now that the Bushevick propaganda guys got to it, they've cleaned it all up to silly descrete and summary superficial reports that sound too vague to be dangerous.

And that's too bad, because when I finally found the site, (~2001), they had lots of real people screaming about how their new car was dissolving around them on a regular basis. Aunt Millie with her trans falling out after 14K miles, (yep, it happened to me at 8K)! Uncle Bob and a couple of dozen others who's wheels came off while driving down the highway. (This led to an official recall and the infamous 'rear wheel retention kit' being added. No, I kid you not!) Then there was old Albert and about a dozen more unfortunate suckers whose cruise controls stuck open driving on the interstate and who barely survived his encounter with his Focus. (Yes, another recall).

All in all for the first 4 years I owned this piece of dreck there was a recall from Ford every other month, like clock work. Fuel doors snapping off. Side mirrors blowing up spontaneously. Dash board disintegrations. Strangling seat belts that never quite fit properly. Trunks that don't lock. A side 'A' pillar in the front passenger compartment that was recalled, (Yes, *both* of them, one for each front door!) Seats that never stayed put, tires that wore out prematurely, water that ponds in the floor wells when it's raining, and gas mileage that never quite measures up are just some of the wonders of my sick little baby.

I keep it around for humanitarian purposes mainly. I really don't want anyone else to have to suffer driving this dangerous piece of crap. Want to know why GM is going broke, and why Ford will be not long behind them? It's the quality people. It's never been 'job 1', it's not even on their radar most of the time. But yeah. Ford damn Focus. Sorry you mentioned it, right?

And Molson is now a part of the hated far right Coors family of beers. Joe Coors was the same guy who personally funded the torturing Contras in Central Am. all throughout the 1980's for Ronnie Reagan. (Look it up!). Now those guys are training a new generation of free ranging 'spooks' in Iraq. 'Nuff said. Cheers, 'VJ'

I'll be more thankful when USC loses to UCLA and/or Texas loses to Colorado and LSU loses in the SEC title game.

The Canadiens are a hockey team. The Canadians are a nation. I'm not sure I have anything against Montreal's hockey team banning a rapper ;-)
