Definition of Healthy

So the doctor said to me today, kindly, "I see you're about 5 pounds over what I'd like you to be." I wonder why?? I just laughed and said "yeah, it's my birthday month," and left it at that.

Jess eats burrito

The way I see it, you just can't stress about these things. 5 pounds? Who cares? I'll train for another 10-K as soon as my birthday is over and it will be like the extra little pillsbury squish never existed. Birthday 'season' (I tend to celebrate for weeks) requires lush dinners, cake, candy, and lots of wine and martinis. I'm just making my little buddha-belly happy and congratulating her on helping me enjoy another successful, adventurous, and satisfying year of life.

I'd like to know just WHERE on ya are those five pounds? I think it is probably muscle, and your doctor should bugger off. ;)

I call it my "off-season belly." Check back with me after the new year and you'll see what I mean. ENJOY your curves -- they're supposed to be there!

I love the burrito picture :-)

Unless that Doc was talking about five pounds of grapefruit-sized tumor, I'm pretty sure that you'll be just fine. What a jackass.

Exaaaaactly - 5 pounds is easy to drop. Especially at my height, it's nothing. I'm not concerned, I still feel fabulous.

Anon - picture stays. The ability to laugh at oneself comfortably shows strength of character.

Five pounds - pfft. Girl, you run in marathons! I wouldn't exactly sweat it.

Last time I went to my doc for a physical, she raised one eyebrow at me and said, "I see you've put a bit of weight on." And I said, "Mmm hmm." And she asked, with a slight note of sarcasm, "Was that deliberate?"

    Jeesh.

At least my doc was nice about it. I said it was my birthday month and he laughed and said "yes, and it's getting cooler too. I understand, don't worry, you're young and healthy."

My doc would probably tell me to eat more.

I do suddenly feel the urge to acquire a cake or some cake-like pastry. It's my birthday month too, after all.

During your birthday month or season or whatever, calories are negative. You can have a huge burrito, a huge dinner and 15 glasses of wine and not gain an ounce. Didn't you get that memo?

five pounds is nothing. it's possible to retain that much in water at certain times of the month. anyone who can train for a 10-K doesn't need to worry at all. at least the doctor wasn't a total ass about it.

When your doctor said, "I see you're about 5 pounds over what I'd like you to be."
I would have said, "I'm exactly where I like me to be."

5 pounds...jeez!! Go cure something, doctor!! How 'bout that!

I am so sick of people being obsessed with weight. Especially in people that are clearly healthy and care about themselves.

Women are SUPPOSE to be curvy and soft. We aren't meant to be skin and bones or hard muscle.

Now that's a Jewish looking face! If you want a long conversation with the good doc (he might be single, right), ask him what height for weight charts does he use exactly. That'll take some time to explain. There's NHANES 1, 11 etc...And then there's the insurance underwriters, they've got entirely different scores. Most of us are way over that 5Lb limit. Like 3 miles offshore actually. And winter's coming in too. Cheers, 'VJ'
