Queen of the Jungle

I'm tall. I love being tall. 5'9" when I'm bare foot. I can reach glasses on the top shelf without a step-stool. I can see at crowded concerts or football games. I don't have to strain my neck to kiss a boy. I often get shot gun rights in crowded cars. And, it's easy to be noticed. Which normally I don't mind. There's something gratifying about standing out in a crowd without trying.

But on Friday, I had one of those 'too tall' moments where I wished there were a few more 'like-heightened' people in the bar. I walked into McFadden's to help my girl Jen celebrate her birthday, and I could literally see over every head in the bar. Granted, I had 3 inch heels on, but since when is there nobody over 6'0" in a fratty college bar? Are 80s babies vertically challenged? I felt like a misplaced amazon woman. I wanted to spread chia seeds on everyone's noggins, and then spray the crowd with water to watch it grow.

I'm tall, but I'm certainly not a giant. Although, apparently I could have been mistaken for one on Friday.

    I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

My sister is 5'10" or 5'11" in bare feet, and I'm 5'7" or 5'8" in bare feet. Everyone called us amazons in high school.

I am 5'10 and I love them 5'8 and taller. Sometimes some don't like me but hey, you win some and lose some. I am 5'10 200 and solid so I think maybe because I am not skinny as hell most women that are close to my height are cool with me not being 6'0.

Dating shorter men isn't an issue. But being the tallest person in a room full of at least 100 others, makes me stick out like a sort thumb.

Of the girls in my pictures??

Just kidding. Not sure all the tadpoles at McFadden's are ready for facial hair...

It's OK - I'd rather be tall than a midget. Then you can look at other girls and be like look bitch, I'm model height!

I was so surprised when I met you at last month's blogger HH, because I'm used to being the "Amazon" (although at 5'8", I'm not really sure I qualify, and besides, I'm the shortest of all my siblings). I definitely was the Amazon growing up, though - I think it must be something in the water in the Valley that makes everybody so SHORT! I seriously had a hard time finding a BF that was even my height, let alone taller than me.

I'm an 80's baby who is 5'8". Try being tall and black with slightly broad shoulders. I stick out in pictures like it's my job.

Heather - apparently I needed you at McFadden's on Friday. Not that anyone in their right mind would spend time there (except for friends' birthdays)...

Not so much a perk for me, as a perk for the men who get to see it happening.

My wife is 5'9, but in her early years, doctors predicted she would be 6'3+ - so her mom freaked out and took her to a doctor who slowed her growth through some kind of hormone treatment.

Now I am 6'4, and we have 2 girls...I can guess they won't be midgets exactly.

I know how you feel Cookie! I'm not as tall as you (only 5'8 w/o shoes), but I am taller than all of my friends.

BTW...the pic in the middle is really good one of you! Great smile.

My best gal pal is 6 foot 2 - she feels your pain. What she loves most are the questions about playing volleyball and basketball, even though she was a swimmer. Ho hum - just remember, we 5'5" girls envy you. ;)

Five nine is a good heighth for today's woman. My niece is 5-10, and a daughter-in-law is 6 feet. Ok, the son is 6-4 and it is a good match (mental as well as height). The niece's husband is two inches shorter than her - dashing and couldn't be a better match. So the moral is: Height is fine when you fall between 5 and 6 feet, all of the others just need to be positive about who they are.

Not sure that's entirely true. I'd say a 300-pound guy probably has a couple horizontal inches on me...
