a) No, it's not made up. Kathryn is Dr. Grammarian.
b) This was written 'after' the CPMC comment was made. Not a tag-team effort.
c) Senator, recall the difference between Freud's ego and Freud's id. Ego is really implies conscious restraint, understanding that our instinctive selfish desires (our id) can affect others. The common use of the word 'ego' to imply arrogance is really a misnomer. But then...you know that because you think outside of the box :-)
d) Merci Mme. Cube.

Fake, or clever irony?

They are the little accents over the e's in the french language.

As you can see, I learned a hell of a lot in french class.

You like ice?? Did you mean creme glacee? That expression has both a grave and an aigu.
Just kidding. I believe 'glace' (without any accent) is colloquial and can imply ice cream treat.

ice cream treat? where do I sign up?

Thank you, DC Cookie. I appreciate you having respect for me and The Florist.

Ha. Yes, I always assumed it meant ice cream treat. So when I refer to my french speaking skills, I break out the 'j'aime la glace'.

Asian:
In French there are three basic accent marks (there are more, but these are the ones you see most often):
Aigu: which is a forward slash mark over the letter. Hold down your "alt" key and type "130": é
Grave: which is a reverse slash mark over the letter. Hold down your "alt" key and type "138": è
Circonflexe: Which is a reversed "tented v": Hold down your "alt" key and type "136": ê
What I've used for examples is solely for the letter "e." If you go to "The Google" (as Phil's mother calls it), and search for "typing accent marks", or "typing foreign characters" you'll find a lot of information.

I believe circonflexe was covered in Cubie's comment :-) My fave is still the cedille...
