Goodbye Black Beauty

I have been in love with a 1994 Corolla since college. My sweet Black Beauty. It went everywhere with me. It wasn't sexy, but it never failed me. It went through girl-bonding road trips, fights with boys, breakups, make-ups, make-outs, shopping sprees, moves, holidays, vineyard tours, Florida beaches to Canadian snow, Manhattan to Virginia backroads...

Well, Black Beauty had been showing her age in the last few years. Totally reliable, no major mechanical issues, but it was just sounding old. I've been hard on it. The loudly idling engine was one thing, but when things started to rattle in the back seat every time I hit a bump, I decided it was time. I went to the car dealer Wednesday night. If I was going to give up my college sweetheart, it wasn't going to be for just ANY car. It was going to be for something sexy. I found my new love in the redesigned 'Stang. I did hours of research, called 10 different dealers and ended up back at the first dealer. For a single female who has never purchased a car, I believe I blew them away with my negotiating techniques. I knew my shit. I wasn't paying a penny more than I had to. After pinching the guy for every dollar he could give up, we shook hands and he handed me my keys.

I gave Black Beauty a big hug. Thanked it for all the good times. It was the dusk of our love affair and time for us to go our separate ways.

Then I signed my papers, revved the engine on my sexy new car, turned up the music, kicked the bass from the sub-woofers and peeled away from the dealer. I think I'm going to like this one...

Damn! That is one hell of a sexy car, girl!

As far as the ol' Corolla goes, in 2005 she's pushing 11 years old - - that's like 77 in "people years."

I had a Corolla too. RIP Black Beauty.

On the flipside, digging the car. I'm still not sure how I feel about the redesigning of the Mustang but I can dig it.

Like the dude in the years-ago Big Red commercials would say "Looks goooood on ya"

Minus those dumb-ass ghetto-fab 'Mustang' stickers on the sides of the car. Those need to come off pretty damn soon.

Once you get a convertible, you can never go back. Word to the wise - make sure you have some way to put up your hair when topless! (you probably figured that out already)

Isn't it satisfying to stick it to a car dealer? Way to go!

Great job! I personally hate buying cars...I find it very intimidating. I've bought 2 cars and both were scary experiences. Next time I buy a car, I may need you to come with me! ha ha
    Enjoy your new ride, girl!

Chase - it's all about doing your research before you can get there... And you're on, I'd totally come with you! I thought the experience was awesome!

My guitar is Black Betty. She doesn't get enough play...

My car, bought in 1998, was Roxanne. She was a lucky find: a lovely dark blue 1995 Nissan Altima 5 speed, w/ sunroof; there were not very many 5 speeds with sunroofs made/imported into the US for some reason, so even though I wanted black, I was very fortunate to find her. She was my baby for years. Alas, she also died and was hauled away to some DC junkyard where I am sure she was sold at auction. I coulda kept Roxy/Foxy Roxy, if I had $1500 to spend on her; but she wasn't even worth that much by then! My car-lessness since then (August of last year) has limited the amount of times I see my friends far away and pick my my nephews up from school/daycare/camp (sigh), but hopefully she got bought at auction by some nice person and is living a fun life on a farm where she can run around like crazy with other Nissans.

Good times were had with Roxy, especially all the times "Roxanne" came on the radio. When I drove her off the lot for the first time -- the first car I ever purchased on my own -- we listened to Into the Mystic, which is THE staple song for all major events in my life. She loved that song...what a good girl.

Someone said once that Mustang's are white trashy. Not tactful.

But, I think they have finally gotten better. After a decade of mundaneness, they have taken a turn for the better w/ a retro/muscle car feel.

You done good. And, you go to prove the point that they are NOT white trashy.

    Good work.
